About the Characters

Amara

Amara is a fiercely independent fixer who operates through a secret underground network, helping desperate people recover stolen items, escape dangerous situations, and solve problems they can’t take to the authorities. Resourceful, highly skilled, and deeply compassionate beneath her guarded exterior, she has a habit of putting everyone else’s needs before her own while refusing to let anyone get too close. Haunted by a painful past, Amara struggles with self-worth and believes protecting others matters more than protecting herself. As long-buried truths begin resurfacing, she’s forced to confront the trauma she’s spent years outrunning and decide whether survival is enough—or if she deserves something more.

Kat (Kathyra)

Kathyra is a sheltered noblewoman raised in isolation and control, groomed to serve a future she never chose. After fleeing an arranged marriage and the life her father planned for her, she enters the world for the first time determined to claim her own freedom—even if she has no idea what she’s doing. Curious, witty, and drawn to connections she was never allowed to explore, she quickly discovers that freedom is far messier—and far more beautiful—than she imagined. Mystinium, commonly known as Myst, is a rare crystal-based energy source once believed to be lost to history. In its natural form, it can safely power tools, technology, and infrastructure, making it both valuable and highly sought after. While most people view Myst as little more than legend, some individuals can form rare personal connections with it—allowing it to amplify traits that already exist within them. But when humans attempt to force or manipulate Myst beyond its natural limits, the results can become unstable and dangerous. At its core, Myst is a power built on balance, and the story explores what happens when that balance is disrupted.
